Water Heater Repair

Many water heater problems can be resolved with professional repairs, allowing you to restore reliable hot water without replacing the entire system. Our plumbers diagnose the issue, explain your options, and recommend the most practical solution based on the condition of your equipment.

Every repair begins with a thorough inspection of the water heater and its key components. We identify the root cause of the problem, evaluate the overall condition of the system, and perform repairs designed to restore safe, dependable performance whenever it makes sense to do so. After the repair is complete, we test the system to verify it is operating properly and delivering consistent hot water.

We repair common problems including:

No hot water
Insufficient hot water supply
Pilot light issues
Faulty heating elements
Thermostat failures
Water leaks
Sediment buildup
Unusual noises

Water Heater Installation

When repairs are no longer cost-effective, a new water heater may provide better reliability and efficiency. Our team helps homeowners select the right system based on household size, hot water usage, available space, energy source, and long-term goals.

We install quality water heaters according to manufacturer specifications, test the system to verify safe operation, and make sure you understand how your new equipment works before the job is complete. Our goal is to provide a water heater that delivers dependable performance and meet your household’s hot water needs for years to come.

Tankless Water Heater Services

Tankless water heaters offer an energy-efficient alternative to traditional storage tank systems. Our team installs and replaces tankless units and can help determine if this option makes sense for your household’s hot water needs.

How Can We Help?

Frequently Asked Water Heaters Questions

Tankless water heaters are an excellent option for many homeowners. They provide hot water on demand, eliminate standby heat loss, and can reduce energy use compared to traditional tank water heaters. They also last longer and take up less space. Before installation, DrainGo will evaluate your home’s gas line, electrical system, and water quality to determine if a tankless water heater is the right fit and recommend any upgrades needed for reliable performance.

Several factors can influence the cost of a water heater replacement, including the size and type of unit being installed, the location of the water heater, and whether any plumbing or code upgrades are required. Water heaters installed in tight attics, crawl spaces, or confined closets typically require more labor than units located in easily accessible areas. Older installations may also need updates to meet current plumbing codes, which can affect the overall project cost. In addition, permit requirements, warranty options, and household hot water demand all play a role in determining the final price. A professional assessment can provide an accurate estimate based on your home’s specific needs.

Water heater replacement typically ranges from $2,100 to $7,500 or more, depending on the type of unit, fuel source, capacity, and installation requirements. Standard electric tank replacements are generally the most affordable, while gas tankless installations cost more due to additional gas line, venting, or condensate drain requirements. Installation costs can also increase if the unit is located in a tight attic, crawl space, or closet. After an on-site assessment, DrainGo provides an upfront, flat-rate quote, so you’ll know the full cost before any work begins.

Hard water contains minerals like calcium and magnesium that can build up inside your water heater, plumbing, and fixtures over time. This buildup reduces efficiency, shortens the lifespan of your water heater, and can lead to problems like reduced hot water, rumbling noises, and mineral deposits around faucets. Installing a water softener or whole-home water treatment system can help protect your plumbing and appliances while improving long-term performance.

Starting May 6, 2029, new federal efficiency standards require that electric storage water heaters over 35 gallons use heat pump technology. In practical terms, this means the standard 40, 50, and 80-gallon electric tank most Birmingham homes have today will no longer be manufactured after that date. If your electric water heater is aging and likely to need replacement in the next few years, it’s worth having a conversation now — while pricing and product selection are at their best. Give us a call and we’ll help you understand your options.

Most standard tank water heaters last 8 to 12 years, while tankless water heaters typically last 15 to 20 years. Regular maintenance, including flushing the tank and inspecting the anode rod, can help extend the life of your system. If your water heater is more than 10 years old and you’re noticing rust-colored water, inconsistent hot water, unusual noises, or leaks around the base, it may be nearing the end of its lifespan. DrainGo can inspect your unit and provide an honest recommendation on whether repair or replacement is the better option.

A bathroom drain had started backing up, so I called Draingo Plumbing and Septic Services of Alabama to have it checked. The plumber diagnosed the issue, cleared the blockage, and ran the water afterward to make sure everything was draining properly. I liked that the work was explained before getting started and that there was no pressure to add unnecessary services. The job was handled neatly, and the area was left clean afterward. Everything went smoothly, and the drain has been working normally since the visit.

Big thank you to Jay! He was prompt in arriving when we called about a water leak on a Saturday morning. Jay was great in explaining our options. He didn't just fixing the current problem but also identifying issues that would be causing this problem again if left unattended. He was able to get everything fixed up and so helpful. We will definitely be calling Jay at Draingo for our future plumbing needs!!
